One of the prime defensive targets has put pen to paper on a new deal. The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Dmitry Orlov to a new contract. This deal carries the Russian defenceman through the 2024-25 season and has an annual cap hit of $7.75 million.

Dmitry Orlov Contract Signed

The soon-to-be 32-year-old has played for the Washington Capitals and the Boston Bruins during his 11-year NHL career. Orlov recorded seven goals and 29 assists for 36 points in 66 games this season. He was traded from the Capitals to the Bruins at the most recent trade deadline. Orlov had a Corsi for of 52.9 and a relative Corsi of 1.7.

The Novokuznetsk, Russia native has a total of 64 goals and 209 assists in 709 career games. Washington drafted Orlov in the second round, 55th overall of the 2009 NHL Draft. Orlov also won gold at the junior level at the 2011 IIHF World Juniors. He also has a pair of silver medals at the Under 18 level for Russia as well.

Orlov also was part of the 2018 Stanley Cup champion Capitals squad. He scored twice during that successful post-season campaign.

Impact of Dmitry Orlov Contract

Orlov is a hard-nosed defenceman that is very good in his own end of the ice. He proved to be a very strong edition for the Bruins, who won the President’s Trophy. Boston’s season may have ended in disappointment, but Orlov was very solid.

He’s got a high compete level and any team would love to have him. Orlov can be a very physical player and is willing to do what it takes to win games. He still has some miles left in the game and can be a contributor. Signing a Dmitry Orlov contract is a huge deal for the Carolina Hurricanes.
