Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alex Kerfoot Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

Former NHL analyst Cam Charron joined Daily Faceoff Live and discussed Alex Kerfoot’s season with the Maple Leafs and whether or not general manager Kyle Dubas sees Kerfoot as an expendable asset.

Frank Seravalli: As we take a look at the Leafs’ line combos here Cam, you can see Alex Kerfoot in the bottom right corner on the fourth line. Does he become an expendable piece now at the deadline?

Cam Charron: Oh man, I’m not entirely sure. Let’s just say that Alex Kerfoot is a player that is really valued on that team because he can play basically any position on the lineup for them, he’s played left-wing, center, and right-wing and he’s been described as very low-maintenance. He’s not a player that you really have to worry about, I think the Leafs want players like that around so that they can maybe plug in at any forward position and he’s going to know what to do and be happy to do it. I think that the Leafs are going to value players like that. I don’t know if they’d look straight up to replace him, I think if they want to move more salary in order to open up some space but I think they should be looking a bit more at a Justin Holl who is kind of getting replaced by Connor Timmins on the back end. Kerfoot I think is where he is for a reason, he’s kind of the only mid-level salary player on the Leafs and that’s for a reason, they really like him over there as he’s very versatile.

Frank Seravalli: That’s really good insight. I’ve been trying to figure out a way if the Leafs are going to take another swing and perhaps add on the back end. Unless you plan on lot activating Matt Murray until the playoffs start, then you probably need to move out a salary and Kerfoot and Holl were both guys that stood out. That’s exactly the type of insight we like to get on Daily Faceoff Live.
