Drake Batherson's second goal of the game early in the third period broke a tie, helping the visiting Ottawa Senators defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 Wednesday night.

Ottawa's Parker Kelly and Brady Tkachuk also scored and Joonas Korpisalo stopped 34 shots.

Vladimir Tarasenko had two assists for the Senators, for the Senators, who have won two straight after losing six in a row.

Matthew Knies and Tyler Bertizzi scored for the Maple Leafs, who took a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Martin Jones made 26 saves as Toronto lost for the third time in its last four games.

Auston Matthews had his goal-scoring streak end at seven games.

Knies scored his eighth goal of the season at 5:41 of the first on a deflection off a wrist shot by Matthews.

Bertuzzi scored his sixth of the season 23 seconds later from the front of the net on a pass from Morgan Rielly.

Toronto had a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal after the first period.

The Senators had a strong start to the second, taking seven of the first eight shots on goal in the period.

Kelly scored his second goal of the season at 10:17 of the second during a Toronto power play.

Claude Giroux reached a loose puck near the Toronto blue line and flipped a backhand saucer pass into the slot to Kelly, whose shot hit the post and went in. Both of his goals this season have been short-handed.

Batherson tied the game at 14:25 of the second with his 12th goal, knocking in the rebound of Tim Stutzle's shot.

Each team had 20 shots on goal after two periods.

Batherson gave Ottawa the lead at 3:44 of the third. His shot from behind the goal line deflected off Jones and into the net.

Toronto pressed after the goal and missed a couple of good chances.

Jones was removed for an extra attacker with three minutes left in regulation.

Tkachuk scored into an empty net at 17:33. It was his 16th goal of the season and 300th career NHL point.

The teams have split their first two meetings this season, with the road team winning each time.
