Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Strome has been fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Monday afternoon.
Strome, 29, was spotted throwing a water bottle onto the ice at Honda Center in Anaheim on Sunday night after Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon scored to defeat the Ducks in overtime.
MacKinnon’s second goal of the evening capped off a wild back-and-forth contest in which the Avalanche led 2–0 before the Ducks scored four straight to go up 4–2. Colorado then scored twice in the final eight minutes of regulation to force overtime.
Strome picked up an assist on Anaheim’s first goal of the game, scored by Frank Vatrano in the second period. He was not assessed a penalty for the overtime incident, but his $5,000 fine will go to the NHL Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
As an unrestricted free agent last summer, Strome signed a five-year, $5 million average annual value contract with the Ducks on July 13, 2022. The 6-foot-1 center, who shoots right, has 15 goals and 40 points in 80 games with the Ducks this season.
The New York Islanders originally selected Strome in the first round (No. 5 overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. The Mississauga, Ont. product has appeared in 701 games over parts of 10 regular seasons with the Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Ducks, scoring 145 goals and 397 points; he’s added five goals and 19 points in 37 career playoff contests.
Strome and the Ducks will return to action at 7 p.m. PT on Tuesday evening to take on the Vancouver Canucks at Honda Center.
