Ducks sign defenseman John Klingberg to one-year, $7M deal

The Anaheim Ducks bolstered their blueline on Friday, agreeing to a one-year deal with former Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg.

No terms were released, but according to ESPN's Kevin Weekes, Klingberg's one-year contract will pay him $7M for the 2022-23 season.

"We are extremely excited to add John to our group," Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said via the team's press release. "John is a gifted player who can quarterback a powerplay and give us needed scoring from the blueline. He also adds veteran leadership and character to our team."

Last season, Klingberg posted 47 points (6 goals, 41 assists) in 74 regular-season games. In the postseason, Klingberg registered just one assist in seven games.

A fifth-round pick by the Stars in 2010, Klingberg has played his entire eight-year NHL career in Dallas.

Klingberg played in 552 games over eight seasons with the Stars. He leaves Dallas ranked second in Stars' franchise history among defensemen in goals (71), assists (303), and points (374).
