Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has undergone successful core muscle surgery and will miss the rest of the 2021–22 season, the club announced on Monday afternoon.

Larkin recorded a team-leading 31 goals and 69 points in 71 games with Detroit in 2021–22. The Red Wings recalled forward Chase Pearson from the American Hockey League in a corresponding move earlier on Monday.

Playing in his seventh full season with the Red Wings, Larkin was on pace to surpass his career-high mark in points (73) and goals (32), both of which he set during the 2018–19 season.

The Red Wings will go without their captain for their final six games of the 2021–22 regular season. Even with Larkin, it hasn’t been an easy last few weeks for Detroit, which has won just four of its last 15 games.
