The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Adam Erne on waivers, the club announced Monday.

Erne, 28, joined the team on a professional tryout in the pre-season and ended up signing a one-year contract with the team. Appearing in 23 games this season, he’s scored one goal and one assist, and was waived on Oct. 31 earlier this year, too. Clearing waivers the following day, he was assigned to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors scoring one goal in four games.

The Oilers placement of Erne on waivers is the club’s corresponding move to their signing of Corey Perry earlier in the day.

With Erne on the ice at 5v5, the Oilers controlled 49.14 percent of the shot attempt share, 60 percent of the goals scored (6-4), and 51.94 percent of the expected goal share. He’s been an absolute physical force this season, laying 19.16 hits per hour, a mark well above the next most physical Oiler in Raphael Lavoie, who laid 12.95 hits per hour in his seven games, and Evander Kane’s 12.62 hits per hour.

That number for Erne, however, is third highest among all forwards who have played over 172 minutes at 5v5, the same time he’s played this season.

If Erne clears waivers, as he likely will, he’ll join a surging Condors club in southern California who have not only won three straight games, but are 8-1-0-1 in their last 10 games. For the Condors, despite having the fewest games played in the AHL’s Pacific Division with 32, five back of the next closest team, their .609 points percentage ranks fourth in the division.

While Erne’s struggled to produce points at a strong clip in the NHL, he’s been a producer in the American League with 42 goals and 94 points in his 163 games played there.
