Former Edmonton Oilers great Wayne Gretzky Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Edmonton Oilers announced Wednesday they have formed a team Hall of Fame to serve as another way of honoring their past players. The Hall of Fame will be in the style of a Ring of Honor for all-time great Oilers players. The names of these players will be displayed the ring above the PCL Loge Level at Rogers Place.

The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to “honor outstanding contributions or service to the Edmonton Oilers hockey club by past members of the organization. The Edmonton Oilers Hall of Fame may include players, coaches, trainers, staff, executives, or any other person whose role or service in the organization since its founding in 1972 is recognized as extraordinary,” the team said in a release Wednesday.

On Nov. 3 this year there will be a ceremony honoring the inaugural class of the Edmonton Oilers Hall of Fame. The list of players in the class of 2022 will include Wayne Gretzky, Grant Fuhr, Al Hamilton, Jarri Kurri, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Rod Phillips, Kevin Lowe, Glen Sather, and Glenn Anderson.

The team also plans to have an annual celebration of former talents with the return of these players to Edmonton. Starting in 2023, fans will have a say in which players get inducted into the Edmonton Oilers Hall of Fame.

There will be an additional two inductees who will announced Sept. 20 at the beginning of training camp.
