The comeback has begun.

The Edmonton Oilers placed goaltender Alex Stalock on waivers Friday, marking the start of his hockey comeback.

As I wrote about earlier this week, Stalock, 34, has missed the season up to this point after being diagnosed with a heart condition caused by a COVID-19 infection.

Stalock joined the Oilers organization in March 2021 when the team claimed him on waivers, but he’s yet to suit up for a game in the organization.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2005 draft, Stalock has appeared in 151 NHL games and 200 AHL games over his career.

In the NHL, he’s posted a 61-59-18 record, a .909 save percentage and a 2.61 GAA. In the AHL, he’s gone 104-71-19 with a .914 save percentage and a 2.52 GAA.

If he clears, Stalock will report to the Bakersfield Condors.
