Despite posting some of the best underlying numbers in the game, Detroit Red Wings forward Filip Zadina was held to just 10:34 of ice-time in all situations during Friday’s 3–1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Only Carter Rowney, who left the game after blocking a Victor Hedman shot in the second period, played less than Zadina on Friday. At five-on-five, Zadina primarily skated alongside Michael Rasmussen and Joe Veleno.

With Zadina on the ice against the Lightning at five-on-five, the Red Wings controlled the vast majority of the shot attempts, expected goals, scoring chances, and shots on goal.

The Red Wings generated just 41.04 percent of the five-on-five expected goals in Saturday’s game. With Zadina on the ice, that figure jumped to 82.47 percent.

Zadina has played less than 10:34 on just three occasions during the 2021–22 season. The last time he saw less ice was back on Nov. 24, 2021, when he logged just 8:54 during a 4–2 win over the St. Louis Blues.

The Red Wings’ coaching staff elected to put Zadina on the ice for just 11 shifts on Friday, with 1:11 of his 10:34 coming on the power-play. He logged just 3:15 during the third period.

Earlier this week, Daily Faceoff‘s Frank Seravalli added Zadina to his “Trade Targets” board. The 22-year-old forward has seven goals and 17 points in 50 games with the Red Wings this season.
