These playoffs were a tough go for Calgary Flames defenseman Chris Tanev.

Hurt in Game 6 of the Flames’ first-round series against the Dallas Stars, he eventually missed the next four contests. On Dallas’ second goal of that Game 6, a pile of players crashed to the ice in front of the Flames net with Tanev ending up on the bottom.

After Calgary was eliminated in Game 5 by the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver hockey insider Rick Dhaliwal reported that Tanev suffered a torn labrum, a separated shoulder and a neck sprain that kept him out of the lineup.

Tanev told The Athletic's Hailey Salvian the dislocated shoulder Saturday morning he would be undergoing labrum surgery next week. His timetable for recovery is set for four to six months, meaning he’ll likely miss training camp, and there’s a chance he misses game action to start next season.

Held out of Game 7 against Dallas and Games 1 to 3 against the Oilers, Tanev returned to the Flames lineup for Games 4 and 5. He had an assist while playing 19:24 in Game 4, and had a +2 rating in Game 5 while playing 22:08.
