Flames' Rasmus Andersson to miss first game in four years following scooter accident

Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson will miss his first game in over four years after being struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter on Wednesday.

According to Hockey Reference, Andersson last missed a contest on Nov. 11, 2018, when the Flames played on the road against the San Jose Sharks. That was four years, two months and 29 days ago.

Since then, the iron man has laced up in a staggering 350 consecutive games, including 323 regular season tilts and 27 playoff contests. Andersson is only about one-third of the way to the NHL's all-time record for consecutive regular games played (1,034 and counting), which Phil Kessel of the Vegas Golden Knights currently holds.

Kessel broke Keith Yandle's record of 989 straight games in October 2022.

Andersson, who leads the team with four game-winning goals this season, is second on the Flames in assists (27) and fourth in points (34), is one of just five active players with a current streak of at least 300 straight regular-season contests. The 26-year-old trails only Kessel, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns (730), Johnny Gaudreau of the Columbus Blue Jackets (345) and Dallas Stars defenseman Ryan Suter (342).

Calgary announced late Thursday morning that Andersson wouldn't be available to play in tonight's road game against the Detroit Red Wings, set for 7 p.m. ET.
