Flames sign forward Jonathan Huberdeau to eight-year, $84M deal

The Calgary Flames and forward Jonathan Huberdeau have agreed to an eight-year, $84M deal, the team announced Thursday night.

Huberdeau's deal with the Flames comes with an AAV of $10.5M.

"I'm thrilled to be part of the Calgary Flames organization long-term," Huberdeau said in a statement released by the team. "I'm excited for this new chapter and I am committed to this team. I'll give everything I have, on and off the ice and I can't wait to play in front of the passionate Flames fans."

The Flames acquired Huberdeau last month in a blockbuster trade with the Florida Panthers. The deal sent All-Star forward Matthew Tkachuk to the Panthers in exchange for Huberdeau, defenseman MacKenzie Weaver, forward Cole Schwindt, and a conditional 2025 first-round draft choice.

Huberdeau, a two-time All-Star, was due to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season, entering the final year of a six-year, $35.4M contract signed with the Panthers in 2017.

The 29-year-old posted a career-high 115 points (30 goals, 85 assists) in 80 games for Florida last season. Huberdeau finished with five points (1 goal, 4 assists) in ten Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Selected No. 3 overall by the Panthers in 2011, Huberdeau has played in 671 career NHL games from 2012-22, compiling 613 points (198 goals, 415 assists.)
