The Florida Panthers have signed forward Wilmer Skoog to a one-year contract for 2024-25.

The deal is Skoog’s first in the NHL after turning pro ahead of the 2023-24 season. The Swedish center has split the year between the AHL and ECHL, scoring 19 goals and 27 points in 44 games with the Charlotte Checkers. He also had an additional two goals and eight points in 20 games with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

Before turning pro, Skoog played four years with Boston University out of the NCAA. He had a career-high 16 goals and 31 points in his final season in 2022-23, his second year with at least 30 points. Skoog wrapped up his collegiate career with a respectable 40 goals and 76 points in 103 games over four seasons.

Skoog spent two years in the NAHL before going to college, including a 24-game stint with th Maryland Black Bears before joining Boston to close out 2019-20. Skoog played his minor hockey in his native Sweden, which included a solid 26 points in 31 games with VIK Västerås in the U-20 junior league.

The 24-year-old is the latest signing in a busy few weeks for the Panthers. They signed forward Oliver Okuliar earlier today, as well as defenseman Mikulas Hovorka out of Czechia on Wednesday. The Panthers previously signed college free agent goaltender Cooper Black and forward Ben Steeves following the end of their respective NCAA careers earlier this spring.
