As The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported, the Philadelphia Flyers have acquired Brendan Lemieux and a 2024 fifth-round pick in exchange for Zack MacEwen.

Lemieux, 26, has struggled this season putting up just three assists in 27 games this season with the Kings to go along with 53 penalty minutes. HockeyFights.com indicates that Lemieux has been in five fights this season.

According to CapFriendly, Lemieux holds a cap hit of $1.35 million until the end of the year.

Lemieux was drafted second round, 31st overall in the 2014 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He has had trouble finding a permanent home, playing in Winnipeg, New York, and LA and now heading off to Philadelphia. Throughout his six-year NHL career, he has tallied 63 points (31 goals, 32 assists) and 463 penalty minutes in 257 games.

MacEwen, 26, is a hard-nosed forward who also plays with an edge. This season, he has registered nine points (four goals, five assists) in 46 games to go along with 54 penalty minutes. As HockeyFights shows, MacEwen has had six fights this season.

MacEwen has a cap hit of $925,000, making this a cheap acquisition by the Kings to add some grit to their lineup. He will be a restricted free agent this summer. MacEwen started his NHL career with the Vancouver Canucks before joining the Flyers in the 2021-22 campaign. Throughout his career, he has totalled 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) and 233 penalty minutes in 176 career games.
