Flyers acquire Ryan Ellis in three-team trade with Predators, Golden Knights

The Philadelphia Flyers are adding defensive reinforcements ahead of the 2021-22 season.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers have acquired Ryan Ellis from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Nolan Patrick and Philippe Myers. The Predators are flipping Patrick to the Vegas Golden Knights for Cody Glass.

Ellis had spent his entire 10-year career in Nashville. The 30-year-old amassed 270 points (75 goals, 195 assists) in 562 games.

The Canadian joins a defensive unit in Philadelphia that includes Shayne Gostisbehere, Justin Braun, Robert Hagg, Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim.

The Flyers were one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL last season, allowing a league-high 197 goals, equating to 3.52 goals against per game. They also had the second-worst penalty kill in the league at 70.95%.

Adding Ellis was a solid deal for the Flyers, but that move alone won't help the defense turn things around.

Patrick was the second overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. The 22-year-old has compiled 70 points (30 goals, 40 assists) in 197 games across three seasons.

Glass, selected sixth overall in 2017, has tallied 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) in 66 games.
