Tony DeAngelo is on the move again.

According to Frank Seravalli, the Flyers have sent a second-, third-, and fourth-round pick to the Hurricanes in exchange for DeAngelo.

The Flyers are the fifth team of DeAngelo’s NHL career.

He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2014 draft and was traded to the Arizona Coyotes two years later for a second-round pick. DeAngelo made his NHL debut with the Coyotes in 2016-17 and was traded that offseason to the New York Rangers as part of a deal that sent Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta to Arizona.

DeAngelo played parts of four seasons with the Rangers but was bought out last summer following a physical altercation with goaltender Alex Georgiev during the 2021 season.

The Georgiev incident is not the only black eye on DeAngelo’s career. In 2014, DeAngelo was suspended by the OHL following a violation of the league’s Harassment and Abuse/Diversity Policy. In 2017 while with the Coyotes, DeAngelo was suspended for three games for physical assault of a referee.

DeAngelo signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Hurricanes last summer and scored 10 goals and 51 points for the team over the course of 64 games. All told, he’s scored 157 points across 270 NHL games.

He is currently a restricted free agent with one more year left of team control before he is eligible to hit the open market.
