According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier has changed agents, switching from Erik Lupien of Sports Prospects Inc. to Pat Brisson of CAA Sports.

Couturier, 31, was named captain of the Flyers back on Feb. 14, but would have to deal with some drama started by both him and Lupien after serving as a healthy scratch for two games.

Flyers head coach John Tortorella was publicly dismissive of Lupien’s comments and handling of the situation with Couturier during his exit interview, saying that “(Lupien) gets to pound his chest like some little pissant out there, pounding his chest, that really doesn’t know what’s going on with Sean and I.”

Couturier owned up to his own failures that caused Tortorella and the Flyers to bench him for a few games, admitting, “I just plain and simple sucked down the road.” Couturier did end his season with two assists in his last three games, and no fewer than 16 minutes of ice time in those games, but has just two goals since the start of 2024.

It’s unclear what factored into Couturier’s decision to switch agents, but Tortorella’s comments certainly made a fool out of Lupien, an agent who has just one other NHL player as a client.

Brisson, Couturier’s new representation, is one of the NHL’s most lucrative agents. Brisson represents some of the league’s biggest stars, and currently has over $1 billion worth of contracts active in the NHL. Some of Brisson’s most notable clients include Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, Luke Hughes, Sidney Crosby, Claude Giroux, Anze Kopitar, Nathan MacKinnon, and Elias Pettersson, amongst others.

Represented by Brisson, Couturier now shares an agent with Flyers teammates Cam York , Nick Seeler, and Erik Johnson, as well as prospect Alexis Gendron. Seeler, of course, was recently the recipient of a “life-changing” contract extension negotiated by Brisson.
