Philadelphia Flyers netminder Cal Petersen and Ottawa Senators defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker were among the crop of 13 players placed on waivers by NHL teams on Tuesday.

Petersen, 28, was recently acquired by the Flyers in the blockbuster deal that sent Ivan Provorov to the Kings on June 6. The veteran netminder struggled mightily the past few seasons. Petersen registered a save percentage of .895 in 2021-22 and .868 during 2022-23 while playing for the Kings. He largely spent the past season in the AHL for Los Angeles’ affiliate the Ontario Reign and had an underwhelming save percentage of .904 there as well.

Petersen was looking to re-establish himself as an NHL goaltender this upcoming season with Philadelphia. However, with the organization’s goaltending depth in a good place, the Flyers are planning to go a different route with their backup position. Either Sam Ersson or Felix Sandstrom will likely be taking on that role. As a result, the goaltender appears poised to begin the season in Lehigh Valley with the Flyers’ AHL affiliate. His substantial cap hit of $5 million makes him a very unlikely candidate to be claimed moving forward.

Bernard-Docker, 23, was a former 26th overall selection by the Ottawa Senators in the 2018 NHL Draft. Since being selected he’s had limited NHL experience, only suiting up in 32 games for the Senators. He’s scored a total of two assists during his time in the NHL thus far. The young defenseman has mainly played for Ottawa’s AHL affiliate the Belleville Senators throughout the past two seasons. In that time, he’s recorded 15 points in 99 career AHL games.

None of the 29 players placed on waivers by NHL teams on Monday have been claimed.
