Philadelphia Flyers general manager Danny Briere announced that the club has signed defenseman Victor Mete to a one-year, two-way contract.

According to CapFriendly, the contract will have an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000. He will have a minor-league salary of $450,000 and a guaranteed salary of $500,000.

The 25-year-old spent the 2022-23 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. In 11 NHL games, he registered two assists. He didn’t receive a qualifying offer from Toronto at the end of the season. Mete is now moving to his fourth team in just five years, previously having stints with the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens.

Mete was initially selected in the fourth round, No. 100 overall, by the Canadiens in the 2016 NHL Draft. The Woodbridge, Ontario, product spent three seasons with the prestigious London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

In 2015-16, Mete notched 38 points in 68 regular season games and added four goals and seven assists in 18 OHL playoff games en route to the Knights OHL Championship victory. London advanced to the Memorial Cup, and Mete registered one goal in four games as the Knights won the most prestigious trophy in junior hockey, a team which featured the likes of Matthew Tkachuk, Mitch Marner, Evan Bouchard and Robert Thomas, to name a few.

Mete made his NHL debut in 2017-18, registering seven assists in 49 games. It wasn’t until the 2019-20 season that Mete was finally able to find the back of the net for the first time in his career. He registered four goals and 11 points in 51 games. He appeared in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games, registering two assists. During the 2020-21 campaign, Mete was claimed off waivers by the Senators. He finished the season with two points in 14 games. In 247 career games, Mete has collected five goals and 40 assists for 45 points.
