The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Zack MacEwen to a one-year contract extension, according to a report by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

MacEwen, 26, scored three goals and nine points in 75 games with the Flyers during the 2021-22 regular season. He also recorded a career-high 110 penalty minutes.

MacEwen’s new deal reportedly carries a $925,000 cap hit. He’ll be eligible to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights again next summer. (He was set to head to arbitration this year before agreeing to terms with the Flyers.)

As an undrafted player, MacEwen signed an entry-level deal with the Vancouver Canucks after finishing his junior career with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL.

MacEwen emerged as a regular with the Canucks during the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season, appearing in 34 of the team’s 56 games and scoring two points (one goal, one assist).

The Flyers claimed MacEwen off waivers from the Canucks at the start of the 2021-22 season. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward averaged 9:40 of ice-time in 75 games with Philadelphia last year.

With MacEwen re-signed, the Flyers have four restricted free agents remaining to sign this summer: Wade Allison, Jackson Cates, Hayden Hodgson and Linus Hogberg.
