Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim opened up about the trade rumours that circled him this past offseason.

It started when Sanheim was reportedly involved in the trade that sent former Flyers forward Kevin Hayes to the St. Louis Blues, but the deal fell apart after Torey Krug refused to waive his no-trade clause to go to Philadelphia. Hayes was then traded to the Blues for a sixth-round pick.

However, with that trade falling apart. Sanheim had good conversations with Flyers president of hockey operations, Keith Jones, and head coach John Tortorella, and the issue will be put in the past. “There were no hard feelings on either side,” Sanheim said.

The 27-year-old landed an eight-year, $50 million extension, which was signed by former Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher in October 2022. Danny Briere has since taken over general manager duties.

Sanheim tallied seven goals and 16 assists while averaging 20:24 per game in 81 contests last season. He was selected No. 17 overall in the 2014 NHL Draft by the Flyers. Prior to going pro, he spent three seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Calgary Hitmen, where he tallied 162 points in 186 games. He made his NHL debut in 207-18 and appeared in 49 games with the Flyers, tallying 10 points. The Elkhorn, Manitoba product has registered 139 points in 416 regular-season games while adding eight points in 20 Stanley Cup playoff contests. With the departures of both Ivan Provorov and Tony DeAngelo on the defense corps, Sanheim is projected to have an expanded role this season where he can elevate his game even more.
