Former NHL veteran Jussi Jokinen retires at 38

Forward Jussi Jokinen made his NHL debut with the Dallas Stars in the fall of 2005 and, most recently, spent the past three seasons playing in Finland.

On Wednesday, the 38-year-old officially retired as an active professional player.

"I've always demanded a lot of myself, and when I wasn't able to meet those demands any more, it was time to call it quits," Jokinen explained, according to the NHL website. "The main reason was I wasn't able to play any more at the level I've played most of my career. I couldn't help the team as much as I wanted to, so I knew it was the right time to hand [in] the skates."

Jokinen spent time with nine NHL clubs from 2005 through the end of the 2017-18 campaign and recorded 191 goals and 372 assists for 563 points across 951 career regular-season contests, with 17 goals and 15 assists in 54 postseason games.

He earned a silver medal featuring for Finland at the 2006 Winter Olympics and a bronze in 2014.
