Both Detroit Red Wings winger Filip Zadina and New York Islanders center Andy Andreoff have cleared unconditional waivers and will now be unrestricted free agents.

Both players were placed on unconditional waivers due to mutual agreements to terminate their contracts. Zadina, 23, is looking to bet on himself and get another opportunity to develop into the player many thought he could be when he was drafted, while Andreoff, 32, is likely looking to join a team with a better chance of making the NHL roster.

Zadina had a bit of a down season with just three goals, four assists and seven points in 30 games, his lowest point total of his career outside of a three-point season in only nine games. He dealt with several injuries throughout the season as well, which likely played a role in his low point totals. He also played two games with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL, where he had one goal.

Zadina was the sixth-overall pick of the 2018 draft for Detroit and has struggled to play up to that potential so far in his career. He had two years remaining on a three-year contract with a $1.825 million cap hit and left $4.56 million in real dollars on the table since the first year only paid him $915,000.

Andreoff only played three games with the Islanders this season, with one assist in those games. He played 69 games with the Bridgeport Islanders in the AHL, where he had 37 goals, 28 assists and 65 points, adding to his consistent production in the AHL.

Andreoff was a third-round selection for the Los Angeles Kings in 2011, and after seven seasons in the Kings organization, he’s gone to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers and Islanders, playing NHL games for the latter two franchises. He had one year left on a two-year deal with a $762,500 cap hit, leaving $775,000 of that contract on the table with the termination.
