Friday night was full of milestones and streaks across the AHL. See who shined the brightest below.
First to 30 Goals
Springfield Thunderbirds forward Adam Gaudette scored his 30th goal of the season to become the first AHL player to hit the 30 mark during the 2023-24 season.
Also, Gaudette ties Springfield’s franchise single-goal record with Anthony Greco and Martin Frk.
Hot Hodgson
Milwaukee Admirals forward Cody Hodgson scored two goals in last night’s game to put him on a four-game point streak. Hodgson returned to professional hockey on January 24, 2024, after being forced to retire due to being diagnosed with malignant hyperthermia eight years ago.
Luke Warm Monsters, Red Hot Players
One of the hottest teams in the league, the Cleveland Monsters, hit a bit of a cold spell since the new year began. This was made even more evident as they fell to the Chicago Wolves, 4-1, on Friday night. Trey Fix-Wolansky scored the lone Cleveland goal. Defenders David Jiricek and Jake Christiansen assisted the goal.
Jiricek now has five points in six games. Fix-Wolansky is on a four-game point-steak. Christiansen is flying high on a seven-game point streak.
Great Grimaldi
With an empty net goal in Friday’s 4-1 win over Cleveland, Rocco Grimaldi of the Chicago Wolves moved into a tie for second place in the AHL with 28 goals. In the past six games, Grimaldi has five multi-point games and 11 points.
Three Point Night, Streaks, Oh My!
The Grand Rapids Griffins are streaking! After beating the Iowa Wild, the Griffins extend their point streak to 17 games and their winning streak to six games. It wouldn’t have been possible without Carter Mazur’s three-point night. This is Mazur’s second three-point night of the season and third of his career.
Utica Blanks Lehigh Valley
Utica Comets forward Ryan Schmelzer earned his eighth multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist in Friday’s 3-0 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Dumont Shines
Syracuse Crunch’s Gabriel Dumont had a two-goal night, giving him goals in back-to-back games and extending his point streak to three games.
Colorado Comeback Kings
It took the Colorado Eagles 31:33 to score their first goal on Friday, and then they couldn’t stop scoring. Five unanswered goals to secure the 5-4 win over the Calgary Wranglers. Helping lead the way for the Eagles was Tanner Kero, who earned his first-ever four-point night in the AHL.
Wranglin’ Milestones
The Calgary Wranglers may have lost to the Eagles,5-4, but they earned a few milestones in the process. Forward Lucas Ciona earned his first professional multi-point game by scoring two goals. One of the assists on Ciona’s first goal of the night was forward Cole Schwindt’s 100th career AHL Point.
Forward Emilio Pettersen skated in his 200th AHL game.
Coachella Loves Shorties
Marian Studenic scored the Coachella Valley Firebirds’ 11th shorthanded goal of the season. Coachella Valley is one shorthanded goal away from tying the Providence Bruins, Laval Rocket, and Milwaukee Admirals for first in the league.
Hicketts Strong
Defenseman Joe Hicketts assisted both of the Ontario Reign‘s power play goals in Friday’s win over the San Diego Gulls. Since his return from injury on February 16, he has played in seven games, earning 10 points and four multi-point nights.
