Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry scored the first goalie goal in Penguins history Thursday night when he snapped a 180-foot shot on the empty Tampa Bay Lightning net.

The Penguins won 4-2.

In 2018, Jarry was the first goalie to score a goal for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, too. With 1:08 remaining in the game, the Penguins having rallied from a 2-0 deficit to lead 3-2, Jarry dropped to one knee and snapped the 180 shot that hit the empty net dead center.

Jarry was also spectacular in the preceding 59 minutes, too. The netminder made numerous 10-bell saves to limit the damage in a disastrous first period in which Tampa Bay outshot the Penguins 15-2 in the first 10 minutes.

Jarry was named the No. 1 star, and deservedly so.

Sidney Crosby, Drew O’Connor, and Jeff Carter scored the hard way, beating Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Two weeks ago, after Penguins backup goalie Alex Nedeljkovic scored a goal for the WBS Penguins, PHN asked Jarry if he would try for an empty netter.

“Probably not,” he said with a laugh, given the danger of icing or turnover.

He told a little white lie and made Penguins history in the process.
