The Vegas Golden Knights have assigned goaltender Laurent Brossoit to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Henderson Silver Knights on a conditioning loan, per Kelly McCrimmon.

Brossoit, 29, has yet to play this season as he was forced to undergo hip surgery this past spring. The hope was that he was going to be ready to go by training camp, but the recovery went somewhat slower than originally thought. Nonetheless, he is making positive strides now, and should be able to return well before the new year.

The 2021-22 season marked Brossoit’s first as a Golden Knight, as he was signed to a two-year, $4.65 million deal the summer prior. He, like most of the team, struggled to find consistency, posting a rather underwhelming 2.90 goals against average (GAA) along with a .895 save percentage (SV%).

Though he is expected to remain in the AHL for at least a few weeks given how long he has been out, his return could complicate things in the crease for the Golden Knights. Once it became apparent he was not going to be ready from the get go, McCrimmon chose to go out and acquire Adin Hill from the San Jose Sharks.

Hill has been outstanding behind starter Logan Thompson thus far, recording a 1.72 GAA along with a .940 SV% and a 4-0-0 record. Both his and Thompson’s great play could result in the Golden Knights looking to move Laurent Brossoit at some point this season, as they also have a veteran third stringer in Michael Hutchinson in the system.
