Vegas Golden Knights’ goaltender Logan Thompson was rewarded for his great first half of the 2022-23 season on Thursday, as it was announced that he was selected for the upcoming All-Star Game, set to take place in Sunrise, Florida, on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4.

Heading into the 2022-23 season, there were serious questions as to whether or not the goaltending duo of rookie Logan Thompson and the inexperienced Adin Hill would be enough to lead the Golden Knights back into the playoffs, and so far both have been as good as anyone could have hoped.

“I love Vegas,” Thompson said to Ashali Vise about his quick journey to becoming an All-Star. “I love playing for this team.”

Thompson, 25, has been fantastic this season, posting a 2.61 goals against average (GAA) along with a .915 save percentage (SV%) and a 18-9-1 record. With his All-Star selection, he becomes the first rookie goaltender since Anaheim Ducks’ John Gibson back in 2016 to receive such an honor, a pure testament to how good he has been in 2022-23.

With the emergence of Thompson, there will likely be plenty of speculation this offseason as to what the Golden Knights will choose to do with Robin Lehner, who is out for the entire 2022-23 campaign due to hip surgery. Given the latter’s $5 million cap hit and the two seasons remaining on his deal, general manager Kelly McCrimmon may be inclined to move him given the team’s tricky salary cap situation. Plenty of that, of course, will depend on how Thompson performs over the second half of the season, but at this point there seems to be little reason to doubt he will do anything but continue to perform at a high level.
