The Vegas Golden Knights announced on Friday that they signed defenseman Ben Hutton to a two-year contract extension through 2025-26 worth $975,000 per year.

The 30-year-old defenseman is in his third season with the Golden Knights, scoring one goal and seven assists for eight points through 28 games in 2023-24. Hutton is averaging 16:13 of ice time this season.

Hutton won a Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights last season, dressing in two playoff games (Game 5 of the first round against the Winnipeg Jets, and Game 5 of the second round against the Edmonton Oilers).

Through nine NHL seasons, the six-foot-three Hutton has 23 goals and 97 assists for 120 points in 496 career games with the Golden Knights, the Vancouver Canucks, the Los Angeles Kings, the Anaheim Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Hutton recorded a career-high 25 points in 2015-16 with the Canucks, his rookie campaign. He scored a career-high five goals the following season.

Hutton earned a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2016 World Championships. He spent three seasons playing college hockey with the University of Maine, being named to the All-Hockey East First Team following the 2013-14 season.

The Golden Knights are 21-8-5 with 47 points, tied with the Canucks for first in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division. However, Vegas has lost two in a row and are looking to rebound on Saturday afternoon with a rematch of the Stanley Cup Final in the Sunshine State against the Florida Panthers.

The two teams will play again in Vegas on Thursday, Jan. 4.
