The Nicolas Hague saga is finally over as the Vegas Golden Knights announced on Monday afternoon that they have re-signed the defenseman to a three-year, $6.88 million deal that will carry an average annual value of roughly $2.3 million.

Hague, 23, had been absent from the team throughout training camp due to not having a contract in place. There had been reports as of late that the two sides were communicating very little, leading many to believe a trade was on the way. It appears they have found common ground however, which is great news, as he will provide head coach Bruce Cassidy with a stable option on the third pairing.

Though Hague did miss training camp, he was able to remain skating with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League to ensure he kept in game shape. Whether or not he will be able to go for the season opener Tuesday evening remains to be seen, but if not, he should be soon afterward.

It is expected that the Golden Knights will begin their season with Hague slotted in on the third pairing alongside Zach Whitecloud. Both are two promising young defensemen who have shown of growth in recent seasons and are only continuing to improve. In 52 games this past season, Hague notched four goals and 14 points along with 38 penalty minutes.
