Hotel spokesperson where Artemi Panarin allegedly assaulted woman: 'No such incident occurred'

Artemi Panarin is taking a leave of absence from the New York Rangers following allegations in Russia that he assaulted an 18-year-old woman in the country in 2011.

The Rangers released a statement saying Panarin "vehemently and unequivocally denies" the allegations in the "fabricated story."

The allegations against Panarin come from former NHLer and KHL coach Andrei Nazarov. According to Latvian KHL reporter Aivis Kalnins, a hotel spokesperson where Panarin allegedly assaulted the woman said "no such incident occurred."

Panarin has been outspoken in his criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and he supports Putin's opposition, Alexei Navalny.

His support for Navalny suggests the story out of Russia could be false, but nothing has been confirmed, nor has an investigation taken place yet.

It's unclear when or if Panarin will return to the Rangers this season.
