Edmonton Oilers’ forward Connor McDavid made history on Tuesday night by becoming the fifth-fastest player in league history to reach 900 career points, doing so in just his 602nd career game in his ninth NHL season.

Even more impressive is that he finished the night with five points, scoring once and adding four primary assists to help the Oilers defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 for their sixth straight win.

On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss McDavid’s greatness and if his latest accomplishment is even more impressive upon inspection.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Let’s talk about offense, and Connor McDavid becoming the fifth-fastest player in NHL history to hit the 900-point mark. It was incredible last night at Rogers Place in Edmonton as McDavid willed the Oilers to victory with five primary points.

To be the fifth fastest is wildly incredible, but to do it in this era with scoring where it’s at is another level of McDavid’s magic.

Frank Seravalli: I just love last night’s game for so many reasons. His 10th five-point game of his career, it was one of those nights where you had a hard time picking out what was the prettiest play he made because there were so many of them.

As incredible as the list is of the players who could reach 900 points fastest, with names like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Mike Bossy and Peter Stastny, take a look at the work done here by our friend Paul Pidutti (@AdjustedHockey on X): if you adjust everyone for era, McDavid is actually the third-fastest player to reach 900 points. If gives you some perspective as how special he is.

I said recently that he’s knocking on the door of the NHL’s Mount Rushmore, it’s not going to take him long to get his face on that mountain.
