Hurricanes acquire Max Pacioretty, Dylan Coghlan from Golden Knights for future considerations

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes have acquired veteran forward Max Pacioretty and defenseman Dylan Coghlan from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for future considerations.

Pacioretty played 39 games for the Golden Knights last season, posting 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists).

Vegas reportedly won't retain any of Pacioretty's remaining salary. He has one year remaining on his current contract, worth $5.2 million next season. Pacioretty can become an unrestricted free agent in 2023.

Even at 33 years of age, Pacioretty can still contribute. Over four seasons in Vegas, the 14-year veteran finished with 194 points (97 goals, 97 assists) in 224 games.

Before being traded to Vegas in 2018 for Nick Suzuki and Tomas Tatar, Pacioretty spent the first 10 seasons of his NHL career with the Montreal Canadians. Pacioretty played 626 career games with Montreal, tallying 448 points (226 goals, 222 assists.)

Coghlan, 24, just completed his sophomore season in the NHL. In 59 games with Vegas, Coghlan finished with 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists), averaging just over 14 minutes of ice-time.

He had six points (3 goals, 3 assists) during his rookie campaign with Vegas in 2020-21.
