Carolina Hurricanes’ forward Andrei Svechnikov took to the ice for practice on Monday, no longer wearing the yellow non-contact sweater he’s had since the start of the season, according to the team.

Svechnikov has yet to play for the Hurricanes in 2023-24. The 23-year-old hasn’t dressed for the team since injuring his ACL in a March 2023 game against the Vegas Golden Knights, forcing him to have season-ending surgery.

There is still no timetable as to when Svechnikov will return to the lineup.

Before the injury, Svechnikov scored 23 goals and 32 assists for 55 points in 64 games with the team. He was on pace to improve on the career highs he set in 2021-22, which include 30 goals, 39 assists and 69 points.

In August 2021, Svechnikov signed an eight-year, $62 million contract with the Hurricanes.

In 347 career NHL games, Svechnikov has 112 goals, 152 assists and 264 points, along with 310 penalty minutes. The Russian forward has 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points in 40 career playoff games with the Hurricanes.

Svechnikov was drafted No. 2 overall by the Hurricanes in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He made the club as a rookie, scoring 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in the 2018-19 season.

He began his junior career in 2016-17 with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League, scoring 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points through 48 games with the team.

He was taken No. 1 overall by the Ontario Hockey League’s Barrie Colts in the 2017 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft and spent the 2017-18 with the team, scoring 40 goals and 32 assists for 72 points in 44 games.
