Hurricanes re-sign defenseman Ethan Bear to one-year, $2.2M deal

According to PuckPedia, the Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed defenseman Ethan Bear to a one-year, $2.2 million contract.

The agreement between the two sides avoided an arbitration hearing scheduled for August 8.

In his first season with the Hurricanes, Bear posted 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in 58 regular-season games.

The 25-year-old missed the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup Playoffs run with injury. At the end of the season, Bear underwent minor surgery on his left foot. While he didn't reveal the nature of the surgery, he said it was "nothing serious."

The Hurricanes acquired Bear in a trade with the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Warren Foegele last summer.

A fifth-round pick by Edmonton in 2015, Bear made his NHL debut in 2017-18. After playing 18 games as a rookie in 2017-18, Bear had his best season to date in 2019-20, posting 21 points (5 goals, 16 assists) in 71 games.

In 132 games with the Oilers over three seasons, Bear finished with 33 points (8 goals, 25 assists).
