Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis placed into COVID-19 protocol

COVID-19 largely dominated sports headlines on Monday, and that trend continued into the evening hours.

Per ESPN and The Associated Press, the Carolina Hurricanes placed centers Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis into the NHL's COVID-19 protocol on Monday coming off Sunday's 2-1 loss at the Vancouver Canucks. Additionally, a Carolina training staff member also entered the coronavirus-related protocol. All three are isolating in Vancouver.

The second-place Hurricanes (19-7-1) defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1 in overtime this past Thursday. Earlier on Monday, the Flames had at least three games postponed because of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Aho did not play Sunday because of what the Hurricanes referred to as an illness. As of now, Carolina remains scheduled to return to action via Tuesday's matchup at the first-place Minnesota Wild (19-8-1).

According to ESPN stats, Aho leads the Hurricanes with 15 goals, 17 assists, and 32 points. Jarvis, a rookie, has tallied four goals and seven assists.

The NBA's Chicago Bulls have had a minimum of two games postponed amid their COVID-19 issues, and Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also dealing with coronavirus setbacks. Also on Monday, the NFL had a reported 37 positive COVID-19 test results. At least five NFL clubs are in enhanced COVID-19 protocols, which means they're testing personnel daily regardless of vaccination statuses and mandating mask-wearing at team facilities.

Thus far this season, the NFL has avoided schedule disruptions related to the pandemic.
