When you think of goalies for the New York Rangers, you might think of Henrik Lundqvist, Igor Shesterkin and now … Jonathan Quick?

Yes, the three-time Stanley Cup champion has made quite a name for himself for a Rangers’ squad that surprised many around the league when they signed him to a one-year deal on July 1. Through 18 games this season, Quick is 11-4-2 with a .918 SV% and 2.35 GAA.

This was capped off with a 32-save performance in New York’s 2-1 overtime win against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night, another stellar game for a 38-year-old who many thought would retire after winning a championship with the Vegas Golden Knights last season.

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss Quick’s big night and if the blueshirts should ride with the hot hand for the remainder of the season.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Even though Shesterkin was one of the Rangers’ representatives at the All-Star Game, he didn’t get the start out of the break. Instead it was Quick’s crease, helping the Rangers win 2-1 over the Avalanche.

A goalie controversy can sometimes be a curse or a blessing, but for the Rangers, if you showed Quick’s stats to Chris Drury at the start of the year, he would say that he loves it. But if you told him it was because he was the better goalie between him and Shesterkin, maybe not. What do you make of this “controversy” in New York?

Frank Seravalli: If you would have showed me the two goalies’ stats before the beginning of the season, my head would have exploded. I would have said “Surely we messed up with the graphic.”

Look at how Shesterkin has played. He’s played 18 games with a .900 SV% or better and they’re 18-0-0 in those games, but he’s got seven or eight games below .800 SV% and it makes no sense. Now you’re starting to hear the calls from fans saying to ride the hot-hand and go with Quick moving forward.
