In the span of two days, the New York Islanders have brought back both of their remaining restricted free agents this offseason. After it was announced that Oliver Wahlstrom accepted his qualifying offer, the team agreed to a two-year, two-way contract with AHL goalie Jakub Skarek.

In 38 games with the Bridgeport Islanders last season, Skarek posted a .892 save percentage and allowed 3.32 goals per game while splitting time with veteran goalie Cory Schneider.

With Schneider now headed to play in Europe this season, Skarek will likely get even more playing time in Bridgeport under new head coach Rick Kowalsky and be the first call-up to the NHL if either Ilya Sorokin or Semyon Varlamov is out of action.

Skarek, 23, was drafted by the Islanders in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
