For the second straight year and sixth time in his career, Anders Lee has been named the New York Islanders nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.

The award is given each year to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution within their community.

Lee was named one of three finalists for the award last season.

Throughout his career, Lee has worked closely with the Jam Kancer In The Kan, an organization that hosts Kan Jam tournaments to raise funds that go towards helping those who have been diagnosed with cancer. Lee first began working with the organization back in 2016 after hearing a speech from Fenov Pierre-Louis, a cancer patient battling a Stage 4 Neuroblastoma diagnosis. The two developed a close relationship before Pierre-Louis passed away on July 18, 2018, at the age of 17.

Since then, Lee has hosted annual Kan Jam tournaments featuring his New York Islanders teammates, inspiring other players around the NHL to put on similar events in their cities. At Lee’ss most recent Jam Kancer In The Kan event, $135,000 was raised, according to the founder of Jam Kancer In The Kan, Jamey Crimmins.

“It’s great to have all the guys together, and it’s great to see what [Lee] does for the community,” said Hudson Fasching back in September.”You know how good of a guy he is on a day-to-day basis as a teammate, but it’s also great to see what he can do for the community.”

On the ice, Lee has recorded 37 points with 20 goals this season, helping the Islanders reach the postseason for the second straight year.

The Islanders will conclude their regular season schedule tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7 p.m. at UBS Arena.
