The New York Islanders announced Tuesday they signed defenseman Marshall Warren to a two-year, entry-level contract that will begin in 2024-25.

The 22-year-old is a native of Long Island and coming off his fifth season of college hockey, scoring four goals and 14 assists for 18 points with the University of Michigan.

Previously, Warren spent four seasons with Boston College, where he scored 20 goals and 37 assists for 57 points in 120 games. He helped Boston College win the Hockey East regular-season title as a freshman in 2019-20.

Drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild, he was not signed by the club and became a free agent ahead of the 2023-24 regular season.

The Islanders are 38-27-16 with 92 points, third in the Atlantic Division. They clinched a playoff spot Monday with a 5-1 win over the New Jersey Devils, and have now made the playoffs in five of their last six season.

The Islanders hired Patrick Roy as their new head coach after firing Lane Lambert on Jan. 20. At the time, their record was 19-15-11 with 49 points, sixth in the division. Since then, they’ve gone 19-12-5 and climbed up the standings, going beyond the Wild Card and claiming the No. 3 spot in the Atlantic.

New York is expected to play the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They’re 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and play their final game of the 2023-24 regular season Wednesday at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
