James Reimer made 30 saves for his 26th career shutout, while Erik Karlsson and Steven Lorentz scored second-period goals, as the visiting San Jose Sharks beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0 on Sunday night.

Reimer was strong when needed -- stopping a Philadelphia push within the first minute of the game, then halting all 17 shots he faced in the third period to record his first shutout since Nov. 28, 2001 at Chicago. That included two key saves during a Flyers' power play just before the 12-minute mark of the final frame, then on a streaking Morgan Frost with 5:06 left, to help San Jose win for the second time in eight games this season -- and split a four-game East Coast trip.

Meanwhile, the Sharks broke through while owning a 12-5 shot advantage during the second period. San Jose also got an empty-netter from Nico Sturm in the third.

In his seventh NHL start, Felix Sandstrom made 22 saves for the Flyers, who won four of their first five contests. Philadelphia, which totaled 17 goals entering this contest, suffered its first defeat in three home games.

Though Philadelphia held a modest 9-7 shot advantage during the scoreless first period, San Jose had the better scoring chances. Tomas Hertl had an early breakaway attempt, but Sandstrom got a piece of the puck. The Flyers' netminder also cleanly stopped Evgeny Svechnikov's point-blank chance.

Philadelphia nearly broke through in the first five minutes of the second period, while short-handed. However, Reimer's pad stopped Scott Laughton's breakaway attempt.

The Flyers appeared to open the scoring 7:13 into the second via Joel Farabee. However, the Sharks' challenge that the play was offside proved successful upon review.

Then with 10:25 left in the second, San Jose broke the scoreless deadlock when Karlsson, off a pass from Hertl, drove the puck past Sandstrom from the high circle. The Sharks added their second with 1:31 remaining in the middle frame when Lorentz deflected home Jaycob Megna's shot for his first goal of 2022-23.
