The Winnipeg Jets are getting ready for their second-round playoff series against the Dallas Stars, holding the ability to host Game 1. Winnipeg was able to make an epic comeback in Game 7 of the first round against the St. Louis Blues, keeping their season alive.
But as they get ready to face off against the Stars, Winnipeg is dealing with some crucial injuries. Josh Morrissey, Mark Scheifele, and Logan Stanley all have been listed as game-time decisions for Game 1 against the Stars.
Scheifele has missed the last few games for the Jets, including Game 7 against the Blues. Winnipeg has missed his offensive production, but the team isn't looking to rush him back.
Morrissey suffered an injury during Game 7, so his status remains very unclear heading into this series. Jets head coach Scott Arniel provided a massive update on each player, saying that Scheifele was able to practice with the team.
“Yeah, today was the first day [on the ice] for Josh, so that was great,” coach Scott Arniel said. “For ‘Scheif,’ he was on [Monday], so he’s been on, snuck it in there. So, yeah, it’s a good sign to see them out there and participating. ‘Stan’ [Stanley] first day [on the ice today for him as well."
“So, yeah, all part of that, we’ll go day to day here. Obviously we’ll see where they’re at for tomorrow. They’ve got to wake up tomorrow and see if they’ve improved from today.”
This could bode well for the status of Scheifele heading into Game 1 on Wednesday. But the team understands that his health is of the utmost importance, so they won't force anything.
If Winnipeg can get these reinforcements back, they should have a good chance to start the series out strong. Dallas is also dealing with some injuries, potentially limiting the star power on the ice.
