In an AHL depth move, the Ontario Reign will add a defenseman but lose a forward in the LA Kings and Nashville Predators trade.

The LA Kings have acquired defenseman Frederic Allard from the Nashville Predators for forward Brayden Burke, who has spent this season in the AHL with the Ontario Reign. Allard has also spent the entire 2021-22 season in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals.

With several injuries to the Kings’ defense corps forcing call-ups from the Reign, this move helps to shore up the Ontario blueline as the team prepares for a playoff run.

The 24-year-old Allard is a right-shot defenseman who was drafted in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Predators. In his 242 game AHL career to date, he’s picked up 18 goals and 97 points. He has one goal and five points in 36 games this season.

While not a significant offensive contributor, he is known as a solid defensive defenseman:

Burke’s time with the Reign was short-lived. Acquired in the summer from Arizona, the 25-year-old winger was in and out of the lineup this season for Ontario. When he was in the lineup, he was a relatively productive player, scoring 17 points in 31 games.

Ontario is currently on a four-game losing streak and returns to action on Tuesday when they host Grand Rapids.
