The NHL has announced the players named to the first and second All-Star teams for the 2023-24 season.
The players named to the first All-Star team are New York Rangers left winger Artemi Panarin, Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon, Tampa Bay Lightning right winger Nikita Kucherov, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes, Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi, and Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.
The players named to the second All-Star team are Nashville Predators left winger Filip Forsberg, Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid, Boston Bruins right winger David Pastrnak, New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox, Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar, and Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko.
The All-Star teams feature five players that won awards this season, including MacKinnon (Hart Memorial Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award), Kucherov (Art Ross Trophy), Hughes (James Norris Memorial Trophy), Hellebuyck (Vezina Trophy and William M. Jennings Trophy), and McDavid (Conn Smythe Trophy).
This marks the first time that MacKinnon and Hughes have made the first All-Star team in their careers. Hellebuyck (2020) makes the first team for the second time in his career, while Panarin (2016 and 2020), Kucherov (2018 and 2019) and Josi (2020 and 2022) do so for the third time in their careers.
This marks the first time that Forsberg and Demko have made an All-Star team in their careers. This is the third time that Pastrnak (first teams in 2020 and 2023) and Fox (first teams in 2021 and 2023) have made an All-Star team in their careers, while Makar (first teams in 2021 and 2022, second team in 2023) has done so four times. This is the seventh time that McDavid has made an All-Star team in his nine seasons in the NHL, although it’s only the second time that he’s been on the second team, with the other instance coming in 2022.
