Maple Leafs captain John Tavares visits team after suffering concussion, knee injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs hold a commanding 3-1 lead over the Montreal Canadiens in their opening-round playoff series and can bounce the Canadiens from the postseason tournament Thursday night.

On Wednesday, Toronto captain John Tavares visited the club's practice complex as he continues to recover from the scary concussion and knee injury he suffered when he was accidentally kneed in the head by Montreal forward Corey Perry in Game 1 on May 20.

"John's in the facility here today kind of reacclimating himself and getting back going," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe told reporters, per Mike Zeisberger of the NHL's website. "So there are a lot of really positive things there, both in his recovery and having him around our group."

Toronto general manager Kyle Dubas said Sunday Tavares will miss at least two weeks of action, and the club still hasn't given a definitive timetable for his return. However, both Keefe and forward William Nylander explained on Wednesday the captain has texted and otherwise communicated with teammates throughout the series.

"We get text messages from him for every game reminding us what we need to do out there and what our mindset needs to be like," Nylander said. "He's been a huge part in it. He's been on FaceTime after the wins in the locker room, so he's there every moment."
