Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner victim in carjacking

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was reportedly unharmed in a carjacking on Monday evening in Toronto, the team confirmed on Tuesday morning.

According to CTV News, Marner was ambushed by three assailants as he left a movie theater in the Etobicoke district of Toronto on Monday night. Two of the suspects reportedly had guns and the third had a knife. They took the keys to Marner's Range Rover and fled the scene, according to the report.

TSN notes that the incident occurred a day after York Regional Police issued a warning about carjackings being on the rise in Toronto proper.

Both Marner and the team will not be making any public statements while the police investigate the incident.

Marner and the Maple Leafs had just been eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. The forward contributed eight points (two goals, six assists) for Toronto this postseason on the heels of a career-best 97-point campaign in 2021-22.
