Maple Leafs re-sign veteran forward Jason Spezza to one-year, $750K deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs have plenty of decisions to make following another first-round exit in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs. One of those decisions has already been made.

The Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that they re-signed veteran forward Jason Spezza to a one-year, $750,000 deal.

Spezza has spent the last two seasons in Toronto after stints with the Ottawa Senators and Dallas Stars. The 38-year-old tallied 10 goals and 20 assists in 54 games this season.

During Toronto's media availability to end the season, general manager Kyle Dubas expressed an interest in bringing Spezza back. The Ontario native said he felt he had enough gas left in the tank for another season and was looking forward to 2022.

Dubas will now have decisions to make on Frederik Andersen, Zach Hyman, Wayne Simmonds, Nick Foligno, Alex Galchenyuk, Zach Bogosian and Joe Thornton, among other free agents.
