Minnesota Wild sign Jonas Brodin to seven-year, $42 million extension

On Tuesday afternoon, the Minnesota Wild announced that they have signed 27-year-old defenseman Jonas Brodin to a seven-year contract extension worth $42 million. The deal goes through the 2027-28 campaign.

Minnesota selected Brodin 10th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, and he made his debut with the Wild in January 2013. He ended the pandemic-altered 2019-20 season with 26 assists and 28 points, both career bests, and he led the Wild with 112 blocked shots, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). Only fellow defenseman Carson Soucy (plus-16) had a better plus/minus rating than Brodin (plus-15) among Minnesota players.

Brodin has played in 171 consecutive games for Minnesota.

The Wild fell to the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup qualifier stage of the NHL resumption. The Vegas Golden Knights eliminated Vancouver in the second round of the postseason tournament.
