Toronto Maple Leafs right wing Mitchell Marner James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner extended his record-breaking point streak to 20 games with an assist on a goal by John Tavares in the first period of Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Stars.

With just under five minutes gone in the opening frame, Marner, 25, fired a wrist shot from the point that caught traffic en route to the Stars’ goal.

Maple Leafs captain John Tavares picked up the loose puck and chopped it past Stars netminder Jake Oettinger to make it a 1–0 hockey game. Mark Giordano picked up the secondary assist on the milestone goal.

Marner joined Sidney Crosby, Patrick Kane, and Paul Stastny as the only active NHL players with 20-game point streaks in their careers, per the NHL Records website.

Taylor Hall scored in 26 consecutive games with the New Jersey Devils back in 2017–18, although a three-game injury absence interrupted his run — it’s officially listed by the league a 19-game point streak.

Kane has enjoyed two point streaks of 20 games or longer in his career, with his 26-game streak in 2015–16 the longest recorded by an active player.

Marner’s 20-game streak is the 31st in NHL history. If he’s able to extend his streak to 25 games, he’ll become only the 12th player in NHL history to reach that milestone; only three players (Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Mats Sundin) have ever recorded points in 30 consecutive games.

No other player in Maple Leafs history has ever put together a 20-game point streak (Sundin managed his during his tenure with the Quebec Nordiques).

Marner has 10 goals and 32 points in 27 games with the Maple Leafs this season. Toronto originally selected the six-foot winger with the No. 4 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Stars forward Jason Robertson entered Tuesday’s game riding an 18-game point streak. Dallas trails Toronto 2–0 with two periods left for Robertson to get on the board.
