Boston Bruins winger Jakub Lauko was rushed off the ice 10:46 into the third period of the Bruins’ 3-0 win over the Blackhawks in Chicago on Tuesday night.

With the Boston Bruins up 3-0 just over the midway point of the third period, Lauko was accidentally struck in the eye area by Chicago Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson’s skate. He immediately raced to the bench and down the runway.

Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe then quoted Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery in a tweet as saying Lauko’s eye was indeed OK after what he termed a ‘scary’ moment for all.

ESPN rinkside reporter Ray Ferraro seemed to think that there was no direct shot to the eye and that the skate landed just above, but as time wound down in the third period, there was no update from ESPN or the Boston Bruins.

Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic later tweeted that Lauko’s eye was ‘OK’

Jakub Lauko had played 9:13 at the time of his injury and had two shots and one hit. The 23-year-old winger, who the Bruins in the third round (77th) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, has no points in six games played this season.

The Bruins got goals from Pavel Zacha (1), Matt Poitras (3), and Trent Frederic (2), as well as a 23-save shutout from goalie Jeremy Swayman in the win.
